Has a light bulb in your Sub-Zero refrigerator suddenly stopped working? Don’t panic. There’s probably nothing seriously wrong with the unit. Light bulbs inside a fridge can burn out just like any other, but fortunately, they are easy to replace. Continue reading to learn more about Sub-Zero refrigerator bulb replacement.

How to Access a Sub-Zero Bulb

The process of changing a bulb in a fridge can vary with the model. Most Sub-Zero units feature a light diffuser inside near the top. You’ll need to remove this to access the defective bulb. In 500 Series refrigerators, the diffuser shroud pulls forward to be released. This removal method is common among many different models. However, refer to your fridge’s user manual for specific details on removing the light diffuser.

For 600 or 700 Series Sub-Zero refrigerators, pull the four clips down that hold the shroud in place. Then push up and back on the diffuser, which should then drop out of its fitting. The light bulbs will now be visible.

Some units use LED lights. However, the 200/300 Series units require a standard 40-watt appliance bulb. In fact, most Sub-Zero refrigerator compartments use a 40-watt bulb, while 200 Series under-counter units use a 25-watt bulb. Middle freezer bulbs are usually 25 watts as well.

Changing a Sub-Zero Light Bulb

Twist the old light bulb counterclockwise to remove it. Remove the bulb that is no longer working, and then insert the new bulb and twist it clockwise until it fits tightly in its housing. The bulb should immediately light up.

You can test the bulb by pushing the switch. It should go off; LED bulbs will slowly fade when you press the door switch, so keep this in mind. Verify that the bulb is working before replacing the shroud. If the lights still do not work, the switch may need to be replaced. For models in which it’s not accessible, you will require factory-certified service to access and replace light switches.

Once the issue is resolved, fit the pegs on each corner of the shroud into the four corresponding slots. Then lift the diffuser into place and pull it forward. You may also need to move the clips into the closed position to secure the panel.

Is Sub-Zero Refrigerator Bulb Replacement Not Going According to Plan?

If your fridge’s lights do not turn on, the unit may not be receiving power. In this case, check whether it’s plugged in or if the circuit breaker has tripped. The light terminator can shut off the lights if the door remains open for a long time. Usually, this can be resolved by closing the door and leaving it closed for a while. If the readings on the digital display are faint, the unit may be in Sabbath Mode. When this occurs, or the controls don’t illuminate as well, check the appliance manual to troubleshoot the problem.
