Stylish and durable, a Wolf range is designed to last for many years without trouble. Nonetheless, as is the case with any appliance, proper maintenance will allow it to last even longer. Keeping your range clean is the easiest, and most important, thing you can do. How often you need to clean your appliance depends on usage, but generally a deep cleaning should be done every three months and a top level cleaning of the exterior should be done daily.
Keeping Your Wolf Range Clean
To clean your range, all you need is some clean cloths, warm water, and dish detergent. A steel wool soap pad, mild abrasive cleanser, or degreaser are also useful as is a stainless-steel polish.
Proceed with an exterior cleaning by following these steps:
- Apply the degreaser, which will break down the grease. Wait a bit before wiping the surface, but avoid directly spraying the electronics or display.
- Soak the cloth with a cleaner, instead of spraying the appliance directly, and follow the grain as you apply the cleaner and polish (knobs and handles also have a steel grain).
- While wiping the range and stove, maintain contact between the appliance and cloth/cleaner so you don’t cause it to streak.
Remove the Burner Caps
The burner caps should be removed and washed separately. To properly clean this aspect of your Wolf range begin by:
- Removing the grates to access the burners.
- Lift the caps from the base and then scrub them clean with a cloth, warm water, and dish detergent. Be careful not to clog the burner ports.
- Use a cloth, soaked with warm soapy water, and wipe the burner bases while avoiding the igniter.
- Proceed with drying the burner bases and caps. Once dry, you can then replace them.
Cleaning a Porcelain Burner Pan
The porcelain burner pan in a Wolf gas range should be cleaned with soap and water. If you choose anything else, make sure it’s a mild cleanser. Remove the griddle, if there is one, and clean it separately based on the manufacturer’s instructions.
Whether or not the porcelain pan is removable, clean it by wiping away food particles and debris. Then wipe it down with a clean cloth and warm water/dish detergent. A steel wool pad can be used on stubborn stains, while any mild cleaners should be applied to a cloth first before wiping the pan. After using the cleanser, rinse with clean, warm water, and then mix water and white vinegar in a 1:1 ratio to remove hard water stains. Then dry the porcelain pan.
Wash the Gas Range Grates
The grates on your Wolf range lift off easily. You can then wash them with warm, soapy water and a clean sponge or cloth. If any stains are caked on, mix baking soda and water to form a paste; this is effective at removing food residue. Then rinse and dry the grates thoroughly before you re-insert them.
Clean the Control Knobs
Each control knob is designed to be removed from the valve stem. Pull the knob straight out and then wipe it down with a cloth, water, and mild dish detergent. Immersing/soaking the knobs in water can damage them, as can using abrasive cleaners. Before pushing them back onto the valve stems, make sure the knobs are completely dry.
How to Clean Grease & Food Spills
If you have a Wolf range/oven, spills should be cleaned up immediately. Foods that contain sugar or acids can cause permanent discoloration. To clean a spill, wait for the oven to cool. A porcelain interior should be cleaned with a mild detergent and sponge (chemicals can ruin the porous surface).
Stainless steel interiors should be cleaned with a stainless steel cleaner and lint-free or microfiber cloth. Polishing the surface can protect it from additional stains and maintain the steel’s luster. Always follow the direction of the grain when cleaning and polishing steel.
The appliance’s self-cleaning feature should be used for heavier spills.
- Gently lift baked-on foods in the interior with a razor blade.
- Scrub the stain with a no-scratch cleaning pad with a mild abrasive cleaner or spray degreaser. Run the cleaning cycle;
- After the oven cools, use a damp cloth to wipe up any remaining ash.
